Specimen	Collection Procedure
1 mL Serum (SST)	Serum (SST): Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST). Centrifuge. Aliquot.

Requisition:

Chem & Immuno  SHA Doc 1400-55 SDCL003R v11

Special Handling Instructions:

NOTE:  Patient symptoms, date of symptom onset, travel history, and tick exposure MUST be included on the requisition.

NOTE:  Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms and exposure history.  The risk for Lyme Disease in Saskatchewan remains low.  For further information, see the Saskatchewan government page:

Shipping:

Package as required by transport system used. Ship in accordance with Transport Canada Regulations.

Reference Values:

Absent

NOTE:  All indeterminate and positive results are referred to the National Microbiology Lab (NML) for confirmatory testing.  Once completed, confirmatory test results are provided on a separate report from the initial screening results.

NOTE:  Confirmed positive results are reported to a Medical Health Officer.

Turn Around Time:

1 week for Negative (Absent) results
Confirmatory testing at the NML may take up to 4 weeks
