Specimen	Collection Procedure
1 mL Serum (SST)	Serum (SST): Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST). Centrifuge.

Special Handling Instructions:

NOTE:  IgM should only be requested on symptomatic patients.

NOTE:  Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms, exposure, and vaccination history.

Shipping:

Package as required by transport system used. Ship in accordance with Transport Canada Regulations.

Reference Values:

Negative or Positive

NOTE:  Positive Rubella IgM results are reported to a Medical Health Officer.

NOTE:  Specimens positive for Rubella IgM will automatically receive Rubella IgG testing.
