Syphilis Serology
Specimen Collection Procedure
2 mL Serum (SST)
Serum (SST):  Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST).  Centrifuge.

NOTE:  A single SST tube is usually sufficient for testing of: HCV Ab, HIV Ag/Ab Combo, and Syphilis serology in combination.

NOTE: Minimum total blood volume for neonates is 1 mL.  Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST).  Centrifuge.

NOTE:  testing performed at Regina General Hospital Laboratory.

NOTE:  Syphilis serology results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical presentation and treatment history.

Package as required by transport system used. Ship in accordance with Transport Canada Regulations.
Syphilis Antibody Screen: Negative or Reactive
RPR: Non-Reactive or Reactive (1:1, 1:2, 1:4....>1:512)
TPPA: Non-Reactive, Indeterminate, Reactive or Repeat Reactive
