Specimen Collection Procedure
1 mL Serum (SST)
Serum (SST):  Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer.  Centrifuge.  Aliquot. Freeze specimen as soon as possible.  If specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.
1 mL Plasma (Heparin)
Plasma (Heparin):  Collect blood in vacutainer containing Heparin (green stopper).  Centrifuge.  Aliquot.  Freeze specimen as soon as possible.  If specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.
1 mL Plasma (EDTA)
Plasma (EDTA): Collect blood in vacutainer containing EDTA (lavender stopper).  Centrifuge.  Aliquot.  Freeze specimen as soon as possible.  If specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.

NOTE:  To assess anaphylaxis collect specimen between 15 to 180 minutes after suspected anaphylactic event.

NOTE:  To assess systemic mastocytosis or mast cell activation syndrome the specimen may be collected at any time.

NOTE:  Specimen Stability Information:
Refrigerated:  7 days
Frozen (preferred): > than 30 days

NOTE:  Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.
Send frozen. Referred to In-Common Laboratories, Toronto.
