Specimen Collection Procedure
2 mL Serum (SST)
Serum (SST):  Collect blood in serum separator vacutainer (SST).  Centrifuge.
 NOTE:  If sample will be longer than 48h in transport to RRPL, aliquot and freeze before sending.

 ALL SPECIMENS MUST HAVE MICROBIOLOGIST APPROVAL. 

 NOTE: Please write SARS-CoV-2 IgG or COVID-19 in the "other tests" section of the requisition (located on the bottom right of the req).

 NOTE: Please include "Approved by __________" and list the Microbiologist on-call who approved this test.

 NOTE: Please call your Microbiologist on-call to discuss sending specimens to ensure tests are not cancelled.

 Testing indications: 
1. Unvaccinated patients with suspected multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS) or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC).
2. For public health investigation of complicated cases.
3. In unvaccinated patients with severe illness who have tested repeatedly negative by PCR and where serology would be a helpful tool for clinical or public health action and decision making.

 NOTE: SARS-CoV-2 IgG should NOT be requested on patients who are less than 2 weeks post-infection.
Package as required by transport system used. Ship in accordance with Transport Canada Regulations.
Nucleocapsid IgG:  Negative or Positive
Spike IgG:  Negative or Positive

 NOTE: Not all patients seroconvert, and a negative or inconclusive result does NOT rule out recent or previous SARS-CoV-2 infection.  A positive result should NOT be used to infer immunity or acute infection.
